Dr. Perry stated that no coach would be hired unless they were employed by the school system. If this was the case then why was Andrew Mays approved to be on the coaching staff at the new school????

A coworker of mine from BSG was telling me last week that Travis was wanting to have someone be on his staff, but the central office turned it down because they are not employed by the schools system. Not sure if that is what this is or not.

I saw a coach in Wal Mart last night and was talking to him about assistant coaches (I had no idea about Andrew Mays getting a job); anyway, according to the coach, you could get anybody you wanted as long as they were not paid. FWIW, I think it's ridiculous that you have to be a county employee to coach. Seems like to me we are putting our kids in a box in terms of what coaches they have; would Robin Dotson be a bad coach if he sold insurance in the day as opposed to teaching?
Its actually a common thing among the schools systems. If a teacher wants a teaching position, they are generally given the chance instead of someone not currently employed by the system. If there isn't a teacher wanting a position, then they are okay to proceed with hiring outside people. Scott County has had some scrutiny over this issue for the past decade, especially for your less prominent sports. Volunteers do have to undergo a background check and approval now from the county if they are not employed with the school system though.

He was hired because he started the peace in wise county site
Pretty sure this is another "dawgman lies again" thread more like.
Coeburn has 7 coaches like Andrew as of this year with the new additions, 2 of them are Family Preservation and aren't county employees even though they are in the school. All get paid by the county and are as such employees of the county. Have to go through the same process of background check and everything, only difference I know of is the contract that teachers sign every year.
